The Master West's Combat Taekwondo system includes traditional weapons in the coloured belt and Black belt syllabus. we train coloured belts in Nun chaku, short stick as well as bo-staff basic techniques as well as having complete weapons forms. Weapons forms are also an integral part of our style's tournaments. Self defence techniques are also included in the curriculum and this is complemented with sparring segments for each belt level. Full contact as well as light sparring is available to all belt levels. Combat forms (katas) are taught for each belt level. These forms combine the best of both worlds ie. traditional as well as contemporary taekwondo and street wise combat techniques. 3.3. What special training and preparation do you implement before a big tournament or fight?
I focus on the physical as well as the mental. The physical involves lots of free sparring, stretching and bag work. Training and coaching under tournament conditions is also important. I try to put the students against stronger opponents in the Dojo in order to pick up the level of their "game". As an instructor I try and enhance the strong techniques of each individual just prior to the tournament as well as make them aware of their weak points. mentally. I really hammer on the positive approaches that improve self confidence and motivation. I use techniques such as visualisation and positive behaviour reinforcement. 4.
